چکیده

Submitted for the MAR15 Meeting of The American Physical Society Orbital Nematic Order and Interplay with Magnetism in the Two-Orbital Model for Iron Pnictides ANDRIY NEVIDOMSKYY, ZHENTAO WANG, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Rice University — Motivated by recent ARPES measurements on FeSe [1] and LiFeAs [2] families of iron-based superconductors, we have studied the orbital nematic order and its interplay with magnetism within random phase approximation, as well as using a non-perturbative variational cluster approximation (VCA). We found that the electron and hole doping affect the two orders differently within the two-orbital Hubbard model. While hole doping tends to suppress both antiferromagnetism and orbital ordering, the electron doping suppresses magnetism faster, so that orbital nematicity is stabilized in the absence of long-range magnetic order for moderately high electron doping. This is reminiscent of the orbital nematic phase observed in FeSe in the absence of magnetism [1,3], as well as in overdoped BaFe2(As1−xPx)2 where ARPES finds splitting of dxz and dyz orbitals inside the superconducting phase [4]. This raises the possibility that at least in some cases, the observed electronic nematicity may be primarily due to orbital rather than magnetic fluctuations. See arXiv:1408.1408 for more details. Low magnetization and anisotropy in the antiferromagnetic state of undoped iron pnictides.

We examine the magnetic phase diagram of iron pnictides using a five-band model. For the intermediate values of the interaction expected to hold in the iron pnictides, we find a metallic low moment state characterized by antiparallel orbital magnetic moments. The anisotropy of the interorbital hopping amplitudes is the key to understanding this low moment state. This state accounts for the smal...

Submitted for the MAR11 Meeting of The American Physical Society Orbital characters of the iron-pnictides1 DONGLAI FENG, Fudan University — The orbital degree of freedom plays an important role in the physics of iron-based high-temperature superconductors and their parent compounds. For example, possible orbital ordering has been associated with the spin density wave, and we recently found that...

Submitted for the MAR07 Meeting of The American Physical Society Orbital Polarization in Itinerant Magnets IGOR SOLOVYEV, National Institute for Materials Science, Tsukuba, Japan — The correct description of the orbital magnetism is one of the longstanding problems in the density functional theory (DFT). One possible solution is to extend DFT by considering explicit dependence of the exchange-c...

Photoinduced femtosecond relaxation of antiferromagnetic orders in the iron pnictides revealed by ultrafast laser ellipsometry

We report ultrafast softening of the antiferromagnetic order, ~150fs after the electron thermalization, which follows a two-step recovery pathway to reveal a distinct interplay of magnetism and the nematic order in iron pnictides.
